Review of Death House (2018) by Zachary S — 03 Jan 2019
This movie is kind of amazing in a way. In all my years of watching film, attending school for cinematography and working on multiple film sets in NYC, I've never seen a film make less sense than this one. You think I'm exaggerating, but I honestly challenge anyone who sees this to try and make heads or tails of the plot. When it's not making absolutely no sense it's completely contradicting itself over and over again.
This director has never been good in any sense of the word, but this is one of only two of his films that is so bad it's funny. The characters are baffling, the cinematography is so dark that half the time you struggle to see what's going on, the set pieces of this supposedly high tech prison look like abandoned warehouses, and the editing is at time laugh out loud bad. I always try to go into films with an open mind even if I sort of know what I'm getting myself into, but this movie startled even me with how hilariously bad it is. If you like watching films with your friends and making fun of them, this is definitely one to add to the list. If you're looking for an even remotely satisfying horror movie experience though, look elsewhere.
