Review of Death Defying Acts (2007) by Raquel C — 26 Mar 2008
"Mother?".
.............................................
This is pretty much all about nothing.
You know Houdini, but there's no depth, you know this is a con, but theres no intrigue, you know the girl has a gift, but there's no importance and you know all involved have talent but there's nothing to remind you.
This sort of movie hovers along in the background at least once a year. It's one of those movie that you kow exists, but rarely get round to watching. It's got those people you know in it, those ones you are sure shoud be doing more and may even surprise you that they are in something you've not seen. This movie s that movie.
Guy Pearce is great as per. His on the surface portrayl of Houdini is great. He's maybe a little difficult to read outside of the surface, but Guy Pearce has mastered this sort of role and I liked him despite wishing he'd been given a little more.
CZJ. Seriously. Whatever. One trick pony springs to mind, but here she offers up nothing to sway the opinion. She just sort of exists in the movie. I don;t know who she is or what drives this characters, she's sort of from a fary tale , but not a lead character in one, just someone who stumbled out f one and found her self leading another movie.
The kid from atonement wasokay. not really much to bring to the table ouside of being the kid from atonment, but she fi nito the rest o the movie, so I guess she worked out.
Overall, this movie would fit snuggly onto midweek peak time U.K TV. it has all the elements you'd expect but keeps it moving along before breaking and coming back after the news. It does it's job, but it's not a keeper and frankly I was disapointed a little.

"can you take a punch Houndini".
