Review of Death Becomes Her (1992) by Richard V — 19 Jul 2009
My 13th birthday trip to the cinema was the see this....and at the time, I didn't have a Scooby who Bruce Willis, Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn were, other than from memories of other films. A light but effects rich black comedy, with, as seems often the way, a slight, almost cliched basic plot given a healthy twist and enjoyable mainly becuase it seems the cast and director enjoyed making it.
Spiritually a sibling to the superior Addams family films, where the comically macabre adjoins a very simplified 'real' life, this is fun and frothy. Willis plays with his (at the time) new hard man persona, Streep and Hawn are self mocking and ironically game to look awful and the rest of the cast vamps along quite happily.
Certain key images and the sense of fun aside, you're left with a Chinese takeway style craving for something more satisfying within half an hour, but still entertaining.
