Review of Death Becomes Her (1992) by Clint D — 27 Apr 2012
It's not Robert Zemeckis' best work (nor anyone in the amazing cast's) but "Death Becomes Her" has always been one of my favorite black comedies because it is unapologetic in being over-the-top.
The two main characters (Meryl Streep & Goldie Hawn) are as nasty and bitchy as any two characters you'll see and it's obvious they have a blast bringing them to life...and death. The premise of drinking a potion that grants eternal youth is brilliant because it allows suspension of disbelief, and you'll need to turn off your rational brain before watching this one. At the end of the day, the film is a 90 minute cat fight with Hawn getting a hole blown through her stomach thanks to a shotgun blast and Streep getting her head almost knocked off by a shovel. Awesome!
If you like "Tales From The Crypt", you will enjoy this film because it's straight out of the series but if you're looking for a conversation piece, you'll be left disappointed.
