Review of Death Becomes Her (1992) by Brian M — 17 Feb 2010
After watching Mamma Mia with Meryle Streep, and finding it kind of boring. I thought I would do a review of one of her better movies. One where she was absolutely brilliant.
Here is an older actress who is not liking how she has aged, who discoveres a woman with a magic potion, that will make her a few years younger, and stop the aging process. She drinks the potion, and unfortunately becomes the victum of it's side effects, after falling down the stairs. That side effect, is being dead while kind of alive at the same time.
The husband, brilliantly played by Bruce Willis, uses his mortuary skills to bring her back to her old self. Then Goldie Hawn steps in, as the lover, who thinks her man has Killed his wife so they can be together.
On to the plan, the newly undead Streep blows a hole in Hawn with a shotgun, and then is not too surprised that even though you can see right through her, Hawn is still alive.
This makes for some really great moments between them, and they then team up, to help eachother out, using Willis to whip them both into shape, and hold them together.
It is then that they decide the only way to keep their strange life going, is to get Willis to drink the youth potion, and then kill him, so he can keep servicing them forever. I won't tell you how that ends, but, the ending certainly was interesting, and funny.
It certainly makes me think twice about wanting to live forever. Heck, even being over 60 doesn't sound like fun. But, I'm only 44 so what do I know.
