Review of Death and the Maiden (1994) by Tiago V — 05 Dec 2007
Film adaptations of stage plays don't usually escape the verbal dead-weight of theatricality, and this is no exception. But Sir Kingsley a fantastic. Shame Wilson was miscast - bit of a lightweight performance, and Weaver lacks any kind of presence.
But all have moments, and Polanski directs with an economy the dialogue lacks, which almost saves the day.
