Review of Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008) by Joel M — 04 Mar 2009
Perhaps one of the saddest and most celebratory films I've ever seen. Yes, that sounds like a contradiction, but filmmaker Kurt Kuenne manages to celebrate life and find hope in the midst of a horrible personal tragedy.
While a bit over-the-top at times, the film elicits an emotion Roger Ebert simply calls "elevation," that overwhelming sense of emotion when something beautiful and transcendent shines through darkness.
