Review of Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008) by Lindsey Q — 03 May 2009
A gut-wrenching documentary, but one that needed to be made. What starts off as a filmmaker's moving tribute to teach his murdered best friend's unborn son about a father he'll never know winds up becoming much more.
Its a testament to the importance of family and friends, and its the film paints a vivd portrait of a young man with so much promise ahead of him. But what stirs your emotions to the brink of fury is watching his motivated parents' never-ending struggle to obtain custody of their grandson, and to do so are forced to have a continuing relationship with their son's murderer.
