Review of Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008) by Michael L — 19 May 2010
This is an incredibly sad and tragic story, but an amazing documentary. I don't have much to say without going into detail about what happens but it starts out as a "one last film tribute" the director was putting together to honor a close childhood friend who was murdered. The story takes unexpected and heart wrenching twists as it progresses. Again, this movie is a sad one, but its more than just a documentary on someone who was killed and the memories they leave behind (partially it is) but one with a much deeper story of meaning and emotion. Overall, one of the better movies I've seen as of late in terms of actually caring beyond the simple "I like or don't like what I am watching on screen" experience. A moving film to say the least. Very well done and told, 5 out of 5.
Verdict: A MUST SEE! But prepare yourself.
