Review of Dear White People (2014) by Henry M — 06 Aug 2016
Tessa Thompson really owns her character as the overbearing newly elected President of her house that wants to end the diversity problems at her school and I hope to see her become a big star. Justin Dobies,Teyonah Parris, and Tyler James Williams are also great breakouts in this.
At times it hits on topics that are beating the dead horse but it has some great funny moments. It really picks up in the second half when the main characters finally find their voice in this fight and how they protest or how their minds have changed.
It has this neat style to it kind of framing it like a Wes Anderson movie with different chapters. It's worth renting.
