Review of Dear White People (2014) by Eva B — 25 Oct 2014
Dear White people is 2014's updated version of Spike Lee's School Daze minus the sororities and fraternities. I did miss the music. Instead of the protagonist played by Laurence Fishburne you have the female protagonist, Sam White, played by Tessa Thompson. She was the young girl in that long Tyler Perry movie, For black Girls...Tyler James Williams seemed to fill Spike Lee's character minus the pledging and they made him a gay character ...instead of a homecoming weekend at a HBCU...you have a PWI where the Black students are constantly in a battle with white stream media and their misconception of what it is to be a Black person and the fight to prove that you are "black enough" to your black friends. Loved the story. Loved the fresh faced actors. Go see it!
P.S. If you haven't seen School Daze please watch it. It's a CLASSIC!
