Review of Dear White People (2014) by Ethan L — 13 Dec 2014
If you can read the movie title then you know what the subject is circling. This college based, hyper educated wordy screen play struggles to convey its point if it has one. It may be said the raising the topic frankly is the point, but this effort does not come off that polished.
The movie is so wrapped in stilted contrivances, that there is NO good or valid way to be black. white, asian, latino, gay, native american or anything else. This is no apolgist, The movie is just not that likeable.
Dennis Hayberg does a workman's job where he gets one good moment. Most of the rest flounders.
