Review of Dear Wendy (2005) by Mardi M — 15 Sep 2007
Good premise+good cast, generally = a good movie, but I felt that the meaning got a little lost in the portrayal. The film was really brilliant in bits, and when I think about theres not one aspect that I didnt like, it just didnt sit right.
I like the premise, I like the cast, I liked the costumes, I liked the set but it didnt sit right. The exageration in the film can be quite affective, but perhaps it is one of the things that makes it hard to like, as it is so unrealistic, I mean a town being that scared of gangs, when the entire town conisits of one block?? I connected with the characters, I mean I felt for the Dandies love for their partners, and jumped when sumthing interferred with that love.
maybe it was just a bit too over the top, maybe the symbolism was over emphasized (ie. misfiring at the two most crucial points of his life), or mayve it was just to unrealistic, but whatever it was it just didnt seem right to me.
or maybe its I just didnt get it cause I hadnt seen any of the director of writrers other work. You make up your own mind. Its still a good movie, and I suggest you give it a go, ive heard it gets better the more you see it, so perhaps ill like it more after the second viewing,.
