Review of Dear Wendy (2005) by Lucy J — 07 Mar 2008
This is a strange movie. It's like Fight Club with guns, except that it's written by Lars Von Trier and stops making sense about 30 minutes in. Jamie Bell, a wonderful young actor, leads an OK cast of losers who decide to burgeon their confidence by carrying guns - but not using them to hurt anyone.
Of course, everything goes kaflooie in Von Trier fashion. Critics go back and forth on whether this is a critique of the US or a film about gunplay or something more universal. It definitely has its moments, but maybe nothing more.
