Review of Dear Wendy (2005) by Jeremy R — 24 May 2008
A concept ripe for satire (pacifists with guns) is turned into a ridiculous not-quite farce full of stereotypes and empty ideas. It's easy to see why von Trier didn't direct his own script, though it would've resulted in a better movie had he done so.
Though von Trier claims it's not a critique of America, it's impossible not to see otherwise, especially since he freely attacked American history (and successfully) with "Dogville" and "Manderlay".
