Review of Dear John (2010) by James L — 19 Oct 2011
Wow the critics had a field day throwing tomatoes, when the movie was actually fairly interesting. Even though it wasn't adapted well from book form, there is a quality to the film that allows you to experience the film and relate with its charachters while accepting the cinematic limitations.
I felt that the resolution scene between seyfried and tatums charachters, was powerful and for a moment, showed the raw emotional acting that this movie needed more of. Ultimately the strength of the film remains in the storyline, and the success of the film is hanging on the viewers ability to fill in the gaps with their own emotions and perspective.
....3 stars.
