Review of Dear Frankie (2004) by Rachel R — 19 Nov 2007
This is a sad but amazing story of what lengths a mother will go to protect her son from the harmfulness of life. Emily Mortimer is wonderful as the strong but heartbroken mother of "Frankie".
Gerard Butler has his character down absolutely perfectly. Every expression and word he gives has SO much emotion. I would expect nothing less :) Jack McElhone as Frankie gives one of the very best performances from a child actor I have ever seen.
He exhibits so much meaning and depth of character in every single scene. This was a quiet, somewhat melancholy film with an unexpected ending, but all of the performances definitely made it worthwhile.
