A sensitive film which avoids potentially formulaic and upsetting material with the assistance of a solid screenplay, a unique story arch and a clever conclusion. Dear Frankie tells the tale of a mother who has a unique correspondence with her son pretending to write as his father who is out to sea.

When Frankie believes his father is docking in their town his mother must act fast to come up with a plan. Rarely does a film so perfectly designed to pull at all our heart strings succeed as much as this little British film.

Emily Mortimer and the rest of the cast are outstanding and young Jack McElhone is absolute exquisite as the young Frankie. Endearing and captivating Dear Frankie is an entirely enjoyable and engaging film .
