Review of Dear Frankie (2004) by Carrie G — 09 Jul 2008
In a movie about a deaf boy, it is somewhat fitting that what is most powerful are the silent moments. The response from The Stranger (Gerard Butler) when Lizzie reveals how Frankie became deaf; the scene where Lizzie and The Stranger dance and Frankie watches from the sidelines; The Stranger's farewells to both Lizzie and Frankie.
This is a film to watch for its silences, perhaps even more than for its dialogue or music.
