Beautiful and charming film about yearning for a father figure. A movie made before Gerard Butler became the Spartan hunk, and he is surprisingly nuanced and sensitive in his portrayal. Emily Mortimer also turns in a wondefully understated performance and the child actor is superb.

Emotional, without being manipulative and maudlin, unlike most Hollywood fare. A lovely little gem of an underappreciated film, worth finding out and watching with your family. Highly recommended.
