Review of Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam (1987) by Andy P — 17 Jan 2012
Devastating. Incredible first-hand accounts, stunning combat footage, and surprisingly non-precious readings by the big Hollywood names of the day. One of my favorite war docs since it was first aired in 1988, this is, today, still a must-see.
It pains me that, in the course of the last 20 years, the net sum of our collective response to these events is the "support-the-troops" jingoism that serves only to perpetuate these wars. Rather than reconsidering how easily we send men off to die, all we've done is improve morale.
