Review of Deadpool (2016) by Adora T — 10 Jul 2016
I kind of figured this would be overrated, and it is. It's decently entertaining, but so much of it is stereotypical that it's hard to really get into it. This is ironic considering the movie is supposedly mocking other superhero films.
Personally I just found the character Deadpool to be too forced and obnoxious,. I guess I'm not the demo for this nowadays. I prefer the better, more "normal" comic movies by far.
A big problem is the antagonist. He's generic, and they know he's generic, but it doesn't make it ok. We know nothing about him, or his super strong lady helper(See, don't even know her name!). What are they, and who are they? We know he's Francis/Ajax, but that's it.
And then his girlfriend, of course, ends up as the same old woman in distress that we've all seen a million times. They really couldn't have avoided this? In a movie like this, I expected better. They don't even riff on it like you would expect.
The 4th wall breaking wasn't as annoying as I was expecting, which was a relief. I generally hate that kind of stuff.
Finally, anyone else annoyed by Ryan Reynolds high pitched voice? Especially when taunting people and such? I wasn't expecting that. But I haven't really seen many Ryan Reynolds movies.
It's a 2 1/2 star movie. Maybe 3 just for entertainments sake. Not much special here.
