Review of Deadpool 2 (2018) by Dan E — 25 Jun 2018
"Deadpool 2" is a sequel that aims for bigger and better and somehow succeeds. The merc with a mouth returns in a film that is funnier, sadder, more action packed, more violent, more character driven and contains even more references to the X-men world, than the first installment.
Wade and Vanessa are about to move their relationship forward but a series of unfortunate events leads Wade to prison, were he has to protect a mutant kid from a time travelling soldier that wants to kill him.
To succeed in his mission, Wade creates a group of supers, called the X-force. Reynolds manages to top his performance from the first film, adding a lot more depth to Wade, but also making him even more funny and badass.
From the new cast of characters, Zazie Beetz is lovely as Domino and Josh Brolin, following his groundbreaking performance as Thanos in another Marvel movie, gives life to the complex Cable in the best way possible.
The action is much bigger and better than the first film, with an increased budget that director David Leitch makes a perfect use of. As nearly perfect as the first film was, this sequel somehow manages to improve on it on almost every level.
It might not make the best use out of some of its supporting characters, but that's not a major issue. The film has a very smart and unusual - for this genre, at least - perception of evil, that was quite surprising.
"Deadpool 2" is a family film that isn't for families, which will make you excited for "X-force", "Brown Panther" and any other film in the franchise that's about to come.
