Review of Deadpool 2 (2018) by Rodney W — 26 May 2018

I had a great time with the first Deadpool movie. The humor was amazing, the action was great and the story was, while being simple, compelling. I was really excited to see this film, and it was one of most anticipated movies of 2018.

Ryan Reynolds is brilliant as Deadpool. This role was made for him. He is incredibly funny, and surprisingly in this film, gives a quite compelling dramatic performance. There is quite a lot of Deadpool outside of the suit, being Wade Wilson, and I thought that was a bold and smart move. Ryan Reynolds obviously knows this character all around, so he is one of my absolute favorite parts of the film.

Josh Brolin as Cable was AWESOME. The action with him was done really well and his character arch was amazing. He gave the character more heart than I anticipated and he once again proved why he will own the cinemas this summer.

Zazie Beetz as Domino was also really cool and innovative. I can settle the argument by saying that luck is definitely a super-power. Some of the action-sequences with her were some of the most engaging scenes in the movie.

As for flaws in the movie, I felt that the story, at times, bit off more than it could chew, as some of the story felt too compact, which led to pacing issues. Also, some of the CGI was not impressive, while at other times, the CGI looked great. Also, some of the drama in this movie gets cut way too short by comedy, and that, to me, is what separates a good comedy from a great comedy, it's ability to give the dramatic scenes enough time to settle before telling more jokes.

Overall, I had a great time with 'Deadpool 2' and I am excited to see this movie again.
