Review of Deadly Friend (1986) by Ms Amanda J — 06 Feb 2011
The intro of this movie, starting from the Warner Bros. frame contained an inexplicably creepy vibe. The title, Deadly Friend, definitely had me sold. So did the cover, which led me to think the movie was about a psychotic Kristy Swanson as the title character.
But this movie certainly wasn't something to look back on in amazement. There were one or two grotesque scenes, where the head of Kristy Swanson's father resembled a gory basketball (when the characters have nightmares about him).
It had nothing to do with the basketball death scene so it must be some kind of eerie coincidence lol. Otherwise, the movie's suspense level was lacking. When Samantha goes on a killing spree, it isn't chilling and was a bore to watch.
Though Deadly Friend looks appropriately dated and has a suburban, down-to-earth feel that reminds one of The Stepfather, the scares don't come close to the aforementioned movie.
