Review of Deadgirl (2008) by Ryan N — 07 Feb 2013
Marcel Sarmiento's twisted psychological thriller starts off grim and gruelling, but quickly ascends into a chaotic, well-characterised subversion of teen morality and the traditional high school horror.
Many of the film's jump-out moments feel familiar and Sarmiento's script is massively flawed, yet the film's exploration of adolescent sexual desire vs. societal decorum is equally as compelling as it is sickening, and all this inner-horror makes the movie more than worthwhile.
Deadgirl is almost exactly how low-budget horror should be.
