Review of Dead Snow (2009) by Damion R — 14 May 2010
As far as films about a-group-of-youngins-who-find-themselves-alone-in-a-cabin-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-and-get-slaughtered goes, "Dead Snow" is not half bad!
A bit of a satire on the whole genre, "Dead Snow" never quite takes its seriously, and thus the fact that it's like "Evil Dead" meets "Dawn of the Dead" is practically spelled out in the script...and makes the silliness of the film all the more acceptable.
When said group of Norweigan youngin's get attacked, they are indeed being attacked by zombies....and evil Nazi zombies at that!
The whole film is a little predictable, with the backstory and the lack of mobile phone coverage, yada, yada, yada, and some of the effects are lackluster, but "Dead Snow" is definitely a nugget of entertaining foreign zombie fare, even if the Norweigan language gets a little distracting at times (simply because I haven't seen very many Norweigan films!).
A simple, silly, fun atypical zombie romp with at least a couple of spooky moments...although nothing that will scare you too much. You're more likely to grin, roll your eyes, laugh, and enjoy doing it.
