Review of Dead Silence (2007) by Matt L — 01 Feb 2014
I've got to say, it is absurd what the masses receive as exceptional horror films. Dead Silence has to be THE single most under appreciated horror film of all time. I am blown away. It's got a small cast, it's only 80 minutes long, and yet it manages to predate the new horror standards by over half a decade while applying classic horror technique to create something blisteringly original.
I am almost ashamed that I didn't think to see this film when it was in theaters. It's alive, animated. I miss when horror was flagrant, flamboyant. More than just bumps in the dark. More importantly, nearly every horror film I've seen as of late rips off the Switchblade-Romance-ending, rendering the twist finale utterly predictable.
The end of Dead Silence? My God! Didn't see it coming in the slightest! It is positively genius! If you want to waste your time on what everyone else considers good horror, go see The Conjuring or Insidious with the rest of the middle schoolers that snuck out of Despicable Me.
If you want a quality horror film that is bursting with energy and originality, I implore you to watch this film. You will not be disappointed.
