Review of Dead Silence (1997) by Jon P — 26 Oct 2011
Let down by weak performances, endless flaws and a haphazard screenplay, Wan and Whannell's ambitious horror homage is dull, dim-witted and exhausting. The film's twist ending is impressive and at times, its visuals are genuinely creepy, however, the empty characterisation and listless narrative sharply reduce the movie's suspense and diminish its potential shock-value.
This low-budget horror is painfully familiar, poorly scripted and definitely one to be avoided.
