Review of Dead Silence (1991) by Shayne J — 23 Mar 2013
3 stars may be a bit generous but, I usually am when it comes to horror flicks, if it can shake me up from time to time and deliver a creepy enough plot to interest me job is done, for B horror movie. Dead Silence from the producers of Saw is as you guessed it filled with gory and some over the top scenes but is never the less entertaining and thrilling.
Dead Silence resurrects the killer doll style horror film made famous by Child's Play. Dead Silence has the erie tone to it from its dark lighting and cliche horror film music. Despite being a predictable slasher the ending truly caught me off guard...as ridiculous as it was but then again so is this whole movie. Dead Silence is a solid supernatural revenge thriller that will make questions arise out of you as the film progresses. The whole Mary Shaw the psychotic ventriloquist I found to be a creepy concept as well as her dolls which look have a huge scare factor to them. Donnie Wahlberg however out of the film's cast may be the only one who seemed to give an entertaining performance, other performances were cliche, familiar and sometimes boring. Dead Silence has a few really good pop out scares, creepy and dark images and a no doubt haunting tone to it but even this can't save it from being a B movie horror film.
