Review of Dead Silence (1991) by Brandon W — 16 Nov 2014
Before Insidious Chapter two came in which is James Wan's worst movie so far, there's Dead Silence which is now his second worst film. But the thing is about it, I still thought it's a good film.
I kind of understand why it's getting bad reviews, but it felt like an underrated film to me. For a cast of unknown actors except for Donnie Wahlberg, they are actually not bad. It's interesting with the mystery about Mary Shaw, and it's actually original.
Just as I thought Charles Clouser kept making the same soundtrack for the Saw series, he actually made a catchy and creepy soundtrack that barrows some of the beats from Saw, but makes it its own thing.
There are some scares that were effective, and other scares that weren't so. The twist ending actually got me and I don't understand why it's obvious. It's not as smart as James Wan's other films and it might get some viewers bored despite some thrill scenes here and there.
Dead Silence is not perfect, but it's a good film that might be better than what critics gave it.
