Review of Dead Silence (1989) by James W — 21 Jan 2014
It will disappoint when it comes to creating interesting characters, and some of the cast performances seem pretty subdued, but thanks to a steady pace and Ryan Kwanten's solid lead, this is worth following and sticking with, as his character Jamie tries to uncover a mysterious evil that is slowly killing everybody around him.
It's been a while since I last watched Dead Silence but from what I can remember that was the outline, and I loved the opening where the bed sheets slowly coiled back revealing that terrifying dummy.
Fortunately, Dead Silence also boasts a handful of jumpy shocks, a very unnerving atmosphere and a haunting enemy, those ventriloquist dummies will stay in your head, all this will just about satisfy horror fans, plus the film ends with a killer twist.
