Review of Dead Rising: Endgame (2016) by Stauros K — 15 Jul 2016
Keep in mind, I haven't played the game, I just went to see it as a zombie movie...
And it certainly delivered! While the first act was relatively weak on the "zombie" part, from mid-forward it more than quenched my thirst for brain-eating-enthusiasts. Especially on the second and third acts I was certainly on edge. Something important to keep in mind is that while the plot was complicated (haven't watched the first one either so I kinda went in unprepared) by the middle of the movie I understood exactly what was going on and what the stakes were, so it satisfied there as well.
The only parts that left me somewhat unsatisfied were Jill's acting (it was a constant what-am-I-doing-here look, and she's supposed to be more invested than even the protagonist) and the fact that the blonde chick was barely introduced in the third act, same as the doctor. We should have at least received a flashback earlier in the first act. Keep in mind, these are more me neat-picking than actual problems.
Honestly I fail to see why this was so badly received. Perhaps it isn't all that connected to the game so "Dead Rising" doesn't fit the title all that much, but it is a perfectly satisfying zombie movie that I recommend.
