Review of Dead Ringers (1988) by Greg S — 25 Aug 2012
Cronenberg. Fantastic director. His films very often explore the concepts of dual personalities, schizophrenia and grotesque deformities - and this film gets knee deep in these topics. Jeremy Irons is wonderful in this. Playing two characters simultaneously is seamless in his hands.
Look, it's not a horror movie in any traditional sense. It's a study of some very odd individuals. Thankfully they are fascinating people and I love every minute of watching them implode. I mean, they're gynecologists who build their own mutant gynecological tools and become obsessed with a woman who has three uteruses. How is that not interesting?
Extra points for my favorite jealous phone rant scene ever: "You are fucking a mutant!!!".
