Review of Dead Ringers (1988) by Cj C — 11 Apr 2011
Uses the same Cronenberg film style of 'body horror' but in a less blatant way. There are barely any animatronics or gore effects and the few it has are mostly in passing. Cronenberg achieves his uneasy atmosphere through the creepy lead characters, both played incredibly by Jeremy Irons (Actually one of the best performances I've seen for a while).
It has a very slow pace that continuos from the start to finish, which could get a bit monotonous especially in a film dealing with this kind of subject matter. However, it works here due to being fantastically written and very well made, even if by the end you do feel a little cheated by its lack of any real plot development.
