Its not supposed to be just a war movie or just a heist or hood movie, its about how soldiers who fought in Vietnam got screwed over. Larenz was sent to jail,lost his girl,child,friends, and his sanity because of the war.
Not to mention him and Keith David were the only ones alive in the end.
