Review of Dead of Night (1974) by Jacob F — 12 Jun 2009
Not only an effective chiller, but one of the great drama's about coming home from Vietnam and probably the only one I know of made while the war was still going on. A sparse, powerful, and intelligent film with astounding subtextual implications.
While its ambitions overextend its budget in the end(a very young Tom Savini, who had just returned from 'Nam himself, making the best of what he has to work with in his first makeup job) this is still an essential horror film and one of the most overlooked films of the 70's.
