I didn't care much about the silly plot, but was astounded by the brilliant editing and the bringing in of those movie clips from film noir of the 40's and the interaction of Steve Martin with great icons like of Ava Gardner, Bette Davis, Ingrid Bergman, Joan Crawford, James Cagney, Burt Lancaster, and Humphrey Bogart.
