Review of Dead Man's Shoes (2004) by Andy S — 03 Nov 2008
While Richard is away in the army his younger brother Anthony, who is mentally disabled, falls in with the wrong crowd. Anthony is subsequently bullied, humiliated and abused by his new found friends who think he's nothing but a joke.
Now Richard is back, and boy is he pissed! We follow Richard on his quest for vengeance as he brutally disposes of his brothers tormentors adding some well deserved humiliation into the mix along the way.
Paddy Considine's performance as Richard is stunning, there is also an excellent supporting cast and a brilliant script which includes a healthy dose of humour to counter act the darker nature of the plot.
I loved this film and I urge you to see it immediately, although it's the kind of thing that's been done before I've rarely seen it done as good as this. It's also the best British film I've seen in years and we probably won't get anything this good again for ages so watch it, love it and then watch it again.
Kudos to Shane Meadows, this is brilliant.
