Review of Dead Man's Shoes (2004) by Paul P — 25 Jan 2012
This one continued to pop up on my Netflix and the title and cover art alone kept me away not to mention the boring revenge plot. So one day I noticed it was made by Shane Meadows who I hear nothing but good things about.
So I was in the mood for a revenge movie. Well I guess I wasn't prepared for Paddy Considine as Richard. He's so believable in the role for every second of the movie. This is a revenge flick that is sad and feels like a Halloween type horror story.
The way Richard goes about his business is terrifying. I never sided with him, while he's clearly deranged I could relate to his madness. The revenge genre is tired and still feels like violence pornography no matter how you cut it.
But Meadows and Considine have made a movie that is visceral and the definition of cinema.
