Review of Dead Man's Shoes (2004) by Patrick D — 02 Feb 2012
Very much the British equivalent of City of God, Dead Man's Shoes is comparable to a big kick in the nuts. It's incredibly powerful and extremely emotional. Paddy Considine is THE man for doing this film.
I've only seen him in 4 other movies, including the underrated Hot Fuzz, Bourne 3, and In America, but his role in this film tops them all. The use of black and white in flashbacks were very effective as well, and Toby Kebbell as Paddy's mentally-ill brother Anthony played the part so well it actually hurt to watch.
Definitely a film that you rarely find, so good that it's almost a sin to watch, but I think I'll find myself watching this one again down the road.
