Review of Dead Man Down (2013) by William B — 12 Mar 2013
Sometimes, I don't understand critics. Sure, Dead Man Down is packed. The story changes every ten minutes and there's a lot of content to take in at once. However, the story pieces together so nicely that all of that is forgivable.
By the end of the film, my buddy and I were talking about our favorite plot twists and how we never saw them coming. But they make sense, a lot of sense. I have no idea what the critics are crying about.
Perhaps the movie's biggest flaw is the over-dramatic, almost soap opera-like tone throughout the dialog. Other than that, the film had my attention the entire time. Even when the action/suspense let up, it was for good purpose.
The directing is great, the writing is very solid, and the acting (for the most part) is well-done. I didn't have much to complain about walking out of the theater. In fact, I only spoke about how much I loved it.
