Review of Dead Man Down (2013) by Seán G — 27 Jul 2013
Collin Farrell plays Victor, a man deep in a criminal empire bound by revenge in Niels Arden Oplev's Dead Man Down. Oplev, who directed the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, offers a slow, methodical and dark tale of revenge as Victor plays his revenge on those who tore his life apart.
He soon meets Beatrice (Noomi Rapace, Dragon Tattoo) who turns out to be of similar mind and blackmails Victor into helping her out with his. The twist comes much too early for the audience (not that it wasn't obvious from the get go) but it would have been nice to see the twist revealed to us when the men that are being hunted put the pieces together, literally.
It's not a bad film, just could have been so much better, which makes me wonder how it would have turned out if it were not an American production.
