Review of Dead Man Down (2013) by Chinedu O — 11 Oct 2013
Lead actor Colin Farrell is still working, and it was nice to see Dominic Cooper in a film again... I've been following his career since his breakout performance as Tony Stark's dad in Captain America.
Terrence Howard, on the other hand, was miscast in "Dead Man Down", because European people - especially the criminal element - are GENERALLY racist towards blacks anyway, so I can't imagine that they would follow a black man (even if he IS light-skinned).
Maybe the casting manager was going for racial diversity, but this wasn't the way to do it. Also, "Dead Man Down" joins "Heat" in the list of movies where the main character allows a random chick to f*ck up all his well-laid plans.
"Heat" has a GREAT ending, while I suspect that "Dead Man Down"'s rather trite and insulting "Hollywood Ending" was not the director's original vision. SPOILER ALERT.
Colin Farrell shoots up an entire building full of hardened E. European criminals (and Terrence Howard) to rescue his emotionally f*cked-up, toothpick-sized, scar-faced chick. Then they kiss on a train.
End scene, fade to black, roll credits. Someone please shoot me now.
