Review of Dead Man (1995) by Rick P — 07 Jan 2009
This is the movie I call "my favorite", if there is any such thing. It's an art-house version of a western that retains it's sense of humor while delving into the philosophies of what it is to die, and what it is to be American.
I see a number of people here don't care for Neil Young's soundtrack. I like it, with all it's non-musical guitar sounds and vast periods of silence. Ultimately, it's rather slow in pace (as are all of the Jarmusch films I've seen), quietly surreal, and dead-on (pardon the pun) in it's observations.
I love the diversity of the supporting cast, and Gary Farmer gets to voice one of my favorite lines in any movie ever. "What is your name, stupid f*#king white man?".
