Review of Dead Man (1995) by Ungeziefer & Loving It! — 22 May 2008
This film literally changed my life, artistically. It is the closest thing to cinematic perfection since Citizen Kane! Jim Jarmusch is amazing, his cast (including the late Robert Mithcum) is unbelievable.
Johnny Depp plays some sort of naiive paralell reincarnation of the poet William Blake, who is shot in the chest. For the remainder of the film, he is literally dying, traveling deep through the uncharted wilderness with his friend "Nobody", who is far more poetic and enlightened than Blake.
The film bears a breathtaking soundtrack by Neil Young and some great acting from co-stars Crispin Glover, Lance Hendrikson, Billy Bob Thornton, Iggy Pop, and Gabriel Byrne. I strongly recommend anyone who is passionate about film to absorb this masterpiece over and over.
On a scale of 1-10, this is a 20!
