Review of Dead Like Me: Life After Death (2009) by Oliver K — 16 May 2009
As a fan of the show I was thrilled when Ellen Muth confirmed a forthcoming movie. But as a fan of show watching the movie was less than thrilling. Maybe it's because Mandy Patinkin is gone, or original Daisy, or Bryan Fuller, but the energy and sardonic wit are lacking in this incarnation.
Muth is still great in her role but most of the other characters seem aimless (especially new Daisy, who just isn't right). The story focuses too much on soft melodrama and too little on the smirky, sarcastic, satirical, DLM-like, aspects of the plot, and the end is a little too vile even for a movie focused on death.
Mostly this wasn't the level of funny or clever the show had been. This is the corpse of Dead Like Me, but the soul has already been removed.
