I was not a fan of the casting changes, but I assume it was necessary. For those who didn't watch the series, it gives enough background to keep up, and for those who were fans of the series, the character evolution was interesting.
It ties up some internal loose ends, tackles some new issues and resolves them while leaving it open to re-start a new series if they get the option to.
