Review of Dead Like Me: Life After Death (2009) by Clare W — 04 Sep 2009
Solid in parts but way below the brilliance of the TV show. I missed Rube immensely and it just showed how significant Mandy Pantinkin was to the show. Also Sarah Wynter doesn't bring the same energy as Laura Harris to Daisy.
.she was like Daisy-lite and just didn't work as well. Callum Blue, Ellen Muth and Jasmine Guy appear very comfortable picking up their roles again but there wasn't enough Mason in the movie for my liking.
Aside from the absence of Rube, the biggest issue with the film was how few of the questions from the show it answers (possibly none)...there is still no resolution between Daisy and Mason (in fact it is played down) and the up in the air situation with the death of Ray is forgotton.
Despite being set three years after the show, it was like the characters were wound back to early in season 1 and none of the character development of the latter parts of the show (particular all of season 2) hadn't happened.
It is in many ways a very disappointing continuation of what was a brilliant TV show.
