Review of Dead End Drive-In (1986) by Marta S — 31 Jan 2009
Interesting Australian semi-post apocalyptic story from director Brian Trenchard-Smith who ranges from doing terrific films (Turkey Shoot, Night of the Demons 2, Leprechaun 3) to real crap films (Leprechaun 4: In Space, BMX Bandits).
This story is about a young man (Ned Manning) who takes his girlfriend (Natalie McCurry, who looks really good naked in this film) to the local drive in, not knowing that once you get in, you don't get it.
The drive in is a government-placed concentration camp where people live the relaxed life without fear of living in the outside world. Seems like a good system, but our lead hero isn't up for staying there and he spends the next hour trying to figure a way out of the drive in.
Interesting film, but it's only moderately amusing save for the occasional titties. The movie did start out pretty bland but gradually got better and better. McCurry was a delight to start out with, but her character became increasingly annoying as time went on, especially towards the end.
Overall, meh movie. There are better Australian Post-Apocalypse films out there, including Trenchard-Smith's Turkey Shoot, and the Mad Max movies.
